The 18 puzzles in Kruxmind: one page per event, with scramble and methods
The 3x3 is the way in, but almost nobody stays there. Kruxmind treats each puzzle as an event in its own right: its scramble, its notation, its methods and its traps, on a single page.
The 18, grouped the way they are trained
The catalogue is the 17 official WCA events plus FTO, in four groups:
- NxN (6) — 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 and 7x7.
- 3x3 variants (2) — One-Handed and Fewest Moves.
- Blindfolded (4) — 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 and Multi-Blind.
- Others (6) — Megaminx, Pyraminx, Skewb, Square-1, Clock and FTO.
What is inside an event page
Opening an event does not take you to a description: it takes you to something you can train with.
- A timer with that puzzle's scramble, right there, with last time, best time and the event's solve count.
- Notation — the turns of that specific puzzle, which are not the 3x3 ones on Megaminx, Square-1 or Clock.
- Methods for the event, each summed up in a line.
- Algorithms, on the events that ship a set of their own.
- Parities, only where they actually exist.
- Info — how the event is scored, and its world record as a reference.
Parities: only where there are any
A parity is a case that cannot come up on a 3x3 and does on other puzzles: the cube ends one step from solved, in a position ordinary algorithms do not fix. The tab shows up only on the events where it happens — even-layered cubes, 4x4 Blindfolded and Square-1 — and nowhere else, so no puzzle is given a problem it does not have.
It is a small example of a general rule in the app: a tab that always appears, empty or not, stops informing. No data, no tab.
The fine print of each event
Every page's Info tab explains the specific detail that sets that puzzle apart — not a generic rule repeated 18 times. A few real examples:
- 4x4 and 6x6 have an even layer count: no fixed centres, and parities show up in close to half of their solves. 5x5 and 7x7 have an odd layer count: fixed centres, no such parity.
- 6x6 and 7x7 are scored on the mean of 3, not the ao5 of the rest — the only NxN events that do not drop the best and worst attempt.
- 3x3 Blindfolded memorises the cube and solves it blindfolded; the time includes memorisation, not just execution.
- Multi-Blind does not keep the fixed 10-minute-per-cube limit past 5 attempts: from 6 cubes on, the limit becomes 1 hour total, and the score is solved minus failed.
- 3x3 Fewest Moves gives you an hour and paper to find the shortest solution you can — it is not a race against the clock, it is against the move count.
- Clock, Megaminx, Pyraminx, Skewb and Square-1 each carry their own notation, unrelated to an NxN's: pins on Clock,
R++/R--/D++/D--/U on Megaminx, lowercase letters for the tips on Pyraminx, and the (top, bottom) pair plus the diagonal cut on Square-1 — which also requires restoring cube shape before any method applies.
Each event has its methods, not one single method
On 3x3, CFOP, Roux, ZZ and Petrus coexist, along with two-look CFOP as a bridge to the full thing. On 2x2 the path is different: Ortega, CLL and EG. The other groups change just as much. The event page shows the ones for the puzzle you are looking at, and the methods guide develops them.
The 3x3 extras
The 3x3 also carries the training material that only makes sense there: patterns, COLL, OLL and PLL recognition, advanced F2L, two-look CFOP and the virtual cube.
The virtual cube, in every category
Any scramble can be seen in 3D before solving it, always in WCA orientation: white on top and green at the front on NxN puzzles, and the equivalent on each polyhedron. It is there to check you read the scramble right, and to study a case without the puzzle in your hands.
What it does not do
Kruxmind is not the WCA database: the records you see on each page are a reference to place yourself, not an official or day-to-day updated registry, and the official source remains the WCA site. It also does not solve the puzzle for you in every category: the solving engine covers some of them, and on the rest the app says so on screen instead of faking a result.
