Speedcubing timer: 18 categories, WCA scrambles and hardware
The timer is the way into Kruxmind and the most used part of it: scramble, inspection, time and statistics, with WCA rules actually applied and not just named. It is free and works without an account.
18 categories: all 17 WCA events, plus FTO
The catalogue covers all 17 official WCA events — 3x3, 2x2, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, 7x7, Pyraminx, Skewb, Megaminx, Square-1, Clock, 3x3 One-Handed, 3x3 Blindfolded, 4x4 Blindfolded, 5x5 Blindfolded, 3x3 Fewest Moves and 3x3 Multi-Blind — plus FTO, which is not a WCA event and is there because it is part of Kruxmind.
- Category identifiers are the official WCA ones (
333, 333oh, 333bf, 333fm…). That is why a history imported from another timer lands in the right category with no translation table in between. - Blindfolded events are scrambled with random puzzle orientation, as the WCA Regulations require.
Not every event is measured in seconds
This is the detail almost no timer handles properly, and here it is solved at the foundation: two of the 17 events do not produce a time.
- 3x3 Fewest Moves is not timed: its result is a move count. Fewer is better.
- 3x3 Multi-Blind scores in points — cubes solved minus cubes missed — over a single attempt.
Kruxmind also knows which statistic officially rules each event, per article §9b of the WCA Regulations: average of 5 dropping best and worst for most of them; mean of 3 with no drop for 6x6 and 7x7; and the best attempt for blindfolded events and Multi-Blind. An ao5 of 3x3 Blindfolded can be shown as practice data — the WCA itself recognises it outside competition — but it is not presented as the event's result.
Scrambles and inspection
Scrambles are generated following the regulations, with random state on the events that allow it. Inspection is 15 seconds, with visual and voice warnings at 8 and 12 seconds, and +2 or DNF penalties following the WCA model.
- Every scramble comes with its puzzle image, drawn from that actual scramble and not from a generic picture.
- The scramble can be selected and copied with the mouse while the timer is idle.
- Escape discards the attempt in progress.
Hardware: smart cube, Stackmat and Bluetooth timer
The timer does not depend on the screen. Time can come from:
- Bluetooth smart cubes — GAN, MoYu and QiYi, each with its own protocol. The timer starts on your first real turn and stops when you solve.
- Wired Stackmat and Bluetooth timer.
- Keyboard or screen, the usual way.
Smart cubes and the Bluetooth timer use Web Bluetooth, available today in Chrome and Chromium-based browsers on Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. It does not work on iPhone or iPad: that is a Safari limitation.
What happens after the solve
Every attempt is recorded with its scramble, time and penalty, and feeds the rest of the app:
- ao5, ao12, personal best and full history, per category.
- Phase splits (Cross, F2L, OLL, PLL) if you turn on multiphase mode — it is optional and ships off.
- Activity heatmap and records of the day.
- Virtual cube to review the scramble in 3D across every category, always in WCA orientation.
Bringing your history from another timer
You can import your history from csTimer, Twisty Timer and CubeDesk, with automatic format detection. Solves arrive with their category and date; if the file carries recorded turns and phases, those survive the trip too.
With and without an account
Without an account the timer works in full and your data stays only on the device you train on. With an account you can sync across devices: solves merge without duplicating even if you trained in two places at once, and you can merge, split or clean duplicates across your whole history from any of them.
What it does not do
Kruxmind is not a WCA-approved timer and its times do not count towards any official ranking: that needs a competition with judges and approved equipment. What it does is apply the same scrambling, inspection and penalty rules so that what you practise resembles what you will actually face.
